That's funny you ask! This particular night someone came out of the Kroger while I was in between dumpsters. I had one foot on each dumpster ledge and a full box of food. I instantly jumped down with the box and behind the dumpster like some kind of wild ninja. Maggie fell into the dumpster and rolled out frantically saying, "WHAT SHOULD WE DO!??" I told her to make a run for it and I high-tailed it to the car. When I looked back the guy said, "You scared me!" Maggie explained that we needed the food for our garden and chickens and he said, "I got my bananas!" with a smile. We laughed hysterically and decided to play it cool next time. Later that night, the Walmart rent-a-cop pulled up behind my car flashing his lights. I just repeated "abort mission! abort mission!" and we got in the car without saying a word to the cop and laughed all the way home.

The store security can't follow you out of the parking lot and usually the grocery store employees don't mind dumpster divers. I've been told to leave dumpsters before because its considered private property, but I've never had a serious confrontation.

Kim,

Thank you for your comment. I agree it's shameful that the EcoFest is sponsored by corporations, and you were not able to protest urban drilling in Arlington. But the event security seemed to be very calm and treated you with respect when they escorted you off of the Levitt Pavilion property.

I strongly disagree with you when you say that we should not be riding our bikes. I've heard you say it before, and I find it counterproductive. I take great pleasure in riding my bike every day. I realize that there are many risks associated with riding, including inhaling harmful exhaust and fumes emitted by vehicles and fracking sites, but I will not give it up. I doubt me giving up my daily bicycle commute is going to get the drilling to stop. When you say, "We need the bikers community who probably benefits from Chesapeake and Carrizo’s generaous donations..." you're assuming a lot about me and the bikers in our community and, frankly, it doesn't make me want to promote your anti-fracking initiative. I agree that the fracking going on in Arlington neighborhoods is atrocious and I do appreciate your passion, but your off-the-wall comments and displays are polarizing the very people that you could get to be involved with your cause.

I wish you luck next week and in future protests!
